 Help 4 Heroes

Presentation:

The club members flew model aircraft from dawn until dusk on Saturday 12th June in aid of Help for Heroes. Now that all the sponsorship money has been collected the final total amounted to £1300. We were privileged to receive a visit from the area representative for H4H, Mr Steven Plows, in order to collect the cheque and give a bit of publicity to both H4H and ourselves.

Steven served in the Royal Engineers before joining the South Yorkshire Police Force. He has been a member of Sheffield Model Helicopter Club and still flies a small model in his back garden but most of his spare time is devoted to the H4H charity. It was pleasing to learn that the whole of our donation will go to help our wounded servicemen; all the charity expenses are covered by the sale of promotional clothing and other items. In fact about half the money raised was given under the gift aid rules so the £1300 is actually worth about £1475 to the charity.

Well done to our club members and all the people who were persuaded to part with their cash.

I think we can safely say that the club “did it”!

What a day! How to describe it? Something was flying from dawn until Dusk. We were invaded by the mad lamb. The Examiner photographer had a death wish – he wanted Electric Paul to fly his Komet (I think) between him and himself when they were only about 15 feet apart. Jay Tees Better Burgers donated £60 to the funds. Flying Coffin Dodger Nº1 managed to extort £116 from all present to win a Sopwith Pup. Peter Hinchliffe won it and it is probably warping merrily in the container yet. I even managed to fly the Opti-Tanker for almost three quarters of an hour. John Mosley nailed the 4.30am start and managed to hit the sunset slot at 9.30

So far, and I am expecting much more to dribble in we have defiantly collected £850 very close to the £1000 we hoped to reach And the weather was kind on the same day as Honley Show – who could have imagined that would happen?

Final Figure is £1300.00

Well done everyone!

I was sorry to learn that club member Neil Cornes had suffered a heart attack and was detained in hospital.

I believe it was only considered a minor one except probably by Neil himself. We all wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on Tinkers soon.

Visitors to Club Fields.

The visitor’s book at the Whams appears to be sort of working in that a record is being kept of guests who attend flying sessions. These will be minuted at the next committee meeting to satisfy the requirements of our insurers.

It would be helpful if, as well as making a note of the visitors name, someone could drop me the details in an email so that I don’t waste a journey checking for nothing. This particularly applies to Tinkers because I only have one glider to fly and that doesn’t happen often!
