Shelley Indoor Charity Meeting
A couple of new faces appeared this month; John Torr who brought with him a quit impressive Chinook helicopter and with his usual luck also won two out of the three raffle prizes. He replaced one ticket and the other two prizes went to Richard Bottomley who won a very small model kit and our lady pilot who was very pleased with my usual bottle of Spanish Plonk. The other new face was a gentleman from Brighouse who braved the Huddersfield tea time traffic to get to us.
The usual models were there with the addition of the Chinook and Alastair’s helium filled shark. Once neutrally balanced this proceeded to “swim” round the hall by pulsing its tail fin and steering was achieved by wagging the fin from centre to one side. Bill did try to explode it by flying his foamy into its side but its plastic body was as resilient as real shark skin.
I notice that these winter sessions are beginning to pay off with the flying standard of our members. Bill and David were doing circuits and loops with their models and even I managed to fly my MXR helicopter under at least 75% control for the full length of the charge
The important part of the evening was our collection for the charity and very pleasingly a £100 was raised which will be donated to the guide dogs trust.

January’s Indoor Meeting
Now run by Blackstone Model Flyers the event was attended by enough enthusiasts to defer about two thirds the cost of the hall. The extra space made model flying less prone to mid-air collisions and Bill and David were almost pylon racing at one point though it was hard to determine if they were racing in the same circuit. There was the usual crop of helicopters flying at the bottom side of the gym. James, my son, even got quite proficient at flying my Blade MXR so that looks like another model I will only get 50% of the stick time on now.
Thank you to the members who supplied the prizes. James won the bottle of wine and Bill won the Apache helicopter.
I can only apologise for the poor quality of the photographs I took and I have selected a poor best set.
Footnote: These events are nothing to do with any other club though all BMFA members are welcome to attend. Contrary to information published elsewhere the college is entirely happy with our insurance and we hope to see a few more old faces at the next event.

Update on "The Bounty"
Selwin has started buliding it helped by his grandson (ten years old) and reckons it will take all winter to finish at two hours a night.
Thanks again to Michael for a superb prize and I am only glad that it was won by someone who appriciated it.
